When we started Nopal, we had a vision to open up a coffeeshop and community space where people could be surrounded by arte and books, organize around local issues, and be creative, all while having a cafecito.
We wanted to share this vision with Stockton and establish roots in our communities that have faced neglect and disinvestment. Our goal is to provide a sanctuary dedicated to coffee and community. This is why we are opening Raíz Café y Cultura.
At Raíz, we will offer a curated selection of rich coffee brews, freshly baked pastries, and premium beans, inviting you to share a ‘cafecito’ with us while supporting our community's growth. Raíz is committed to empowering our community's youth through meaningful employment opportunities. By choosing our sustainably sourced coffee beans and local products, each purchase not only tastes great but also reinvests in our community's future.

Raíz Café y Cultura is a community-rooted social enterprise that brings together our love of café culture and community work through coffee, pop-ups, events, and our mobile café. Through every purchase, we reinvest into NOPAL’s cultural organizing, political education, and community work in Stockton.

We envision Raíz growing from a mobile café into a permanent third space in Stockton — a welcoming home for coffee, conversation, art, storytelling, and collective care where community can gather, connect, and build together.

Raíz Café y Cultura operates as a social enterprise rooted in community reinvestment and solidarity. A portion of every purchase directly supports local cultural organizing, political education, and collective care in Stockton through Nopal.
Currently, 7% of Raíz sales are reinvested into Nopal’s work, helping sustain both community work and the long-term growth of Raíz as a community-rooted coffee shop. As we continue to grow, we also hope to create meaningful employment opportunities for Stockton youth and invest resources back into the people and communities that shape our city.
